BREAKING: FG suspends payment of FAAC allocation to Rivers
The monthly allocation to Rivers State through the Federation Account Allocation Committee, FAAC to Rivers State has been suspended.
The suspension was confirmed on Friday by the Director of Information in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa to journalists in Abuja.
He said, there was a substantive Court order stopping the allocation, hence, the Office have to comply.
As at Friday, he said, no State in the Federation including the FCT has been paid the October allocation yet, but Rivers will not be paid from now until further development to the contrary.
“What I got is that the October 2024 FAAC has not been distributed yet.
However, the Federal Government will obey the court order on the matter of Rivers State allocation.
It was recalled that Court ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria not to disburse the Federal Allocation to Rivers State after the controversial Local Government election where the All Peoples Party, APP backed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara swept all the council areas in the State.
The emergence of opposition in the election was due to faceoff between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of Federal Capital Territory.
The judgment stopping payment of monthly allocation to Rivers was delivered by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Abuja Federal High Court.
The prohibited the apex bank, the Accountant-General of the Federation, Zenith Bank, and Access Bank from granting Fubara access to funds from the Consolidated Revenue and Federation Account.
