BREAKING: INEC declares Lucky Aiyedatiwa winner of Ondo governorship election
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been declared winner of Ondo State Governorship election on Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Aiyedatiwa is of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC who contested against Agbool Ajayi of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Olorunfemi Festus of the Labour Party and Abbas Mimiko f Zenith Labour Party, ZLP.
He was declared the winner having secured the highest vote of 366,781 against PDP’s Ajayi that scored 117,845 and Labour Party which got 1162 in the election.
Announcing the result in Akure, the state capital, INEC’s Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Lokoja, Prof. Akinwumi Olayemi Durotimi, said Aiyedatiwa polled a total of 366781 while Ajayi got 117845 while LP had 1162.
He said, ”Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of lawful votes cast, is hereby returned elected.”
Aiyedatiwa who succeeded late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on December 27, 2023, is from Ilaje Local Government Area in the southern senatorial district of the state.
