Amangwu: Union unveils committee for 2024 cultural day celebration

Amangwu Development Union (ADU), umbrella body of the people of Amangwu community in Aroçhukwu LGA. of Abia State, is set to hold the 2024 edition of its annual flagship Amangwu-Aro Day Cultural Celebrations, with the unveiling of a Central Planning Committee(CPC).

In a statement signed by its President General, Mazi Basil Kanu Iroegbu and Secretary General, Mazi Christopher Nduka, the union unveiled the members of the CPC for the prestigious cultural fiesta, with Amb Chibuzo Okereke, Legislative Governance Expert/Policy Analyst with the National Assembly and President, ERGAF-AFRICA, as chairman.

The over 29-member CPC has Dr Onyema Edward as Vice Chairman and Praise Chukwuma Kanu and Mazi Innocent Kanu as Co-Secretaries , and others as Executive Members.

According to the statement, the terms of reference of the CPC is to organise an outstanding 2024 Amangwu Day Celebrations scheduled to hold on Sunday December 29, and herald the official commissioning of the historic completion of the Amangwu Town Hall Project.

Among other functions, the committee is also saddled with the responsibility of massive mobilisattion of Umu-Amangwu in Nigeria and the diaspora, including ADU branches to ensure full participation.

“With great pleasure, we are excited to announce the formal constitution of the Central Planning Committee (CPC) for the Amangwu Day 2024 Celebration and the Official Commissioning of the newly completed multimillion Naira Amangwu Town Hall Project,” the statement reads in parts.

The statement added that other highlights of this year’s celebration include official commissioning of the monumental Amangwu Town Hall Project, Business Fair/Exhibition, Amangwu Youth and Women Skill and Scale Enterprise Empowerment Programme, Special Presentations by ADU Branches and Amangwu Diaspora, Cultural Dances, Performances and Love Feasts, and then the Amangwu Distinguished Honours Awards (ADHA), as well as the Face of Ngwu Beauty Pageant.

The CPC parades distinguished Amangwu Sons and Daughters of Amangwu including UgwuAro, Mazi Ernie Onwumere, Ezinne Adamazi Charity Oti, Mazi Kelechi Chukwu, Adaukwu (Barr) Joy Chiori, Mazi Dr Emma Onyema, Comr (Hon) Onyebuchi Chukwu, Rev. Chijioke Ogbonnaya, Rev. Victor Onwumere, Rev Chidiakaobi Onwukeme, Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo (Boxer), Nwmazi Ifeanyi Utamazi, Mazi Chijioke Eze, Mazi Okafor Chiori, and Mazi Okafor Udoagwu.

Others are, Mazi Ogbonnaya Onwuasanya, Mazi Sunday Chijioke, Mazi Ifeanyi Madubuike, Nwamazi Obasi Ikenna, Nwamazi Genesis Praise Obasi, Ojukwu Ifeanyi, Mazi Chiori Okoroafor Chiori, Mazi Joseph Ezeani, Elder Godwin Idenyi, Mazi Chidi Obasi, Mazi Chukwuma Ota, Prince Nwagboso, Adamazi Uchechi Okoronkwo, Mazi Nwachinaem Kakazuzu, among many others.

The union said in order to ensure adequate participation of sons and daughters of Amangwu from abroad, a Subcommittee on Diaspora Mobilisation and Participation has been set up to engage and mobilise the Amangwu diaspora community.

The subcommittee is headed by Mazi Ukachukwu Eze, who is based in the United States, as chairman and Mazi Monday Agwu Chiori (Brazil) as Co-chairman, others include Adamazi Theresa Ozoemena and Adamazi Ijeoma Eze, who is based in United Kingdom and USA as Co-Secretaries, among other members.

The diaspora subcommittee is expected to facilitate their involvement through outreach, communication and fundraising efforts and to foster a strong connection between the diaspora and the local community through active involvement and support, among other functions.
