BREAKING: NEC advises against tax reform, recommends withdrawal of bill from NASS
Amid hardship pervading the country, the National Economic Council, NEC, has advised against tax reform and recommended that it should be withdrawn from the National Assembly.
The recommendation for withdrawal was arrived at a meeting of NEC presided by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima in Abuja on Thursday.
The membership of NEC meeting which includes governors of the 36 states feared a more increase in cost of living if there was attempt to reform that has already overburdened citizens.
Speaking for NEC members after their meeting on Thursday, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed that the NEC decided to withdraw the bill due to disagreements and concerns raised by various groups.
“NEC noted the need for sufficient alignment on the proposed reforms and recommended the withdrawal of the tax reform bills,” he stated.
“We saw the gap and decided that there is a need for a wider consultation,” he added.
