Wike a “transactional politician”, only after personal gain – Bauchi governor
Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has lashed out at the Minister of Fedeal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing him as a transactional politician who only after his personal gains.
Bala’s outburst comes after Wike criticized him for opposing the controversial Tax Reform Bills which was forwarded to the National Assembly by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for legislative action.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, said, Wike could only be loyal when his personal interest is served at the expense of others.
Describing Wike’s remarks as “baseless” and “hypocritical,” Gidado accused the former Rivers State Governor of political inconsistency and opportunism.
“While Wike accuses others of insincerity, he has seamlessly transitioned from being a self-proclaimed PDP stalwart to an ardent supporter of the APC government.
“He now advocates the re-election of the same APC administration in 2027, all while continuing to claim membership in the PDP. This chameleonic behaviour raises serious questions about Wike’s credibility and moral compass,” the statement read.
Bala said, Nigerians were taking cognizance of Wike’s political inconsistency and the undermining of his political party for personal gain, and his prioritization of ambition above principles, wondering how he soon forgot that he was built on opportunities provided by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
“Yet, he now gleefully undermines the very foundation that nurtured him.
“It is disheartening that a man who owes so much to a party that stood by him in his political journey has chosen to be a willing tool in its denigration,” Gidado said.
Responding to Wike’s claim that he is not friends with Mohammed, Gidado dismissed the remark as “irrelevant and puerile.”
“Governance is not built on personal friendships but on competence, vision, and the ability to deliver results,” he said.
“Should Wike ever have a moment of genuine self-reflection and wish to align himself with true leadership, Senator Bala Mohammed would welcome him with open arms.
“Until then, Wike’s friendship or lack thereof is inconsequential to the progress of Bauchi State and the strengthening of Nigeria’s democracy,” the statement concluded.
