The United Africa Royal Assembly (UARA) has pledged its support for President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, particularly his commitment to strengthening the role of traditional leadership in Ghana’s governance framework.

In a statement signed by HIH Prince Estifanos Matewos, President of UARA and Pan-African Parliament Ambassador for Traditional Affairs and Governance, the Assembly commended Mahama’s vision to enhance collaboration between the government and traditional authorities. UARA noted that this approach would help address regional infrastructure deficits, promote local cultural festivals for economic growth, and foster national unity.

“President Mahama’s pledge to elevate the role of traditional rulers in governance resonates deeply with our mission to preserve African cultural heritage and strengthen the influence of indigenous leadership in modern governance,” Prince Matewos stated. “This is a transformative step toward sustainable development in Ghana and the African continent.”

During his inauguration speech, President Mahama emphasized the importance of involving traditional rulers in decision-making processes to ensure inclusive governance. He highlighted that traditional leaders play a critical role in maintaining social cohesion, preserving cultural values, and driving grassroots development initiatives.

The president also outlined plans to promote cultural festivals across regions, recognizing their potential to boost tourism and local economies. Additionally, his administration aims to address regional infrastructure deficits by prioritizing development projects in underserved areas.

The United Africa Royal Assembly, a continental body advocating for the integration of traditional governance in modern political structures, has been at the forefront of championing the rights and roles of African traditional rulers.

As the Pan-African Parliament’s Ambassador for Traditional Affairs, Prince Matewos has worked to strengthen ties between traditional institutions and formal government systems across Africa. UARA’s backing of Mahama’s policy agenda is expected to further reinforce efforts to promote Pan-African unity and ensure that traditional governance remains a key pillar of national development.

Recall that, Mahama’s return to power comes after a fiercely contested election that highlighted issues such as economic challenges, regional inequalities, and governance reforms. His victory was seen as a mandate to restore stability and drive inclusive development.

Analysts believe that Mahama’s focus on traditional leadership will help bridge the gap between local communities and the central government, ensuring more equitable development and fostering national unity.

With UARA’s endorsement, there is growing optimism that Ghana will continue to set an example in balancing modern governance with traditional values in Africa’s political landscape.
