Two term Jigawa deputy governor’s defection ‘crumbling APC’ ahead of general election
In Jigawa State, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been badly hit as a two term deputy governor and current National Commissioner in the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Ahmad Mahmud has defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His resignation was occasioned by crisis of confidence, intra-party confusion and the hide and seek game in the APC, which he said was obvious that APC cannot win governorship and other electable offices in Jigawa.
In his letter of resignation which he addressed to the APC Chairman, Galangamawa ward, of his hometown, Gumel, on Saturday, a copy of which was made available to newsmen, Mahmoud cited the lack of commitment and confidence of party officials towards ensuring victory for APC as reasons he has left.
CAPITAL POST learnt in Jigawa that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party was swelling by the day amid spate of defections from the ruling APC and other minority political parties with the latest defection of Ahmed Mahmoud now crumbing APC, two months to the general election.
Part of the letter read: “With sense of respect and regard as Chairman, I write to notify you of my resignation from All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I’m constrained to take this decision due to obvious intra party conflicts, disunity and lack of commitment, as well as confidence of party supporters towards success of the party in the coming general elections.”
