Tribunal Sacks governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has been sacked by the State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
The tribunal however (Wednesday, September 20), declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasir Gawuna as the winner of the Kano State governorship elections.
CAPITAL POST reported that the NNPP candidate emerged winner of the governorship election that held on Saturday, March 18 and was sworn in on Monday, May 29 after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him the winner of the governorship polls in Kano State.
He was also handed a certificate of return by the electoral commission.
However, at the ruling of the election tribunal which was declared virtually, the electoral commission was ordered to revoke the certificate of return given to Governor Yusuf and hand it over to APC’s Gawuna.
The court deducted 165,663 votes from Gov Yusuf total as invalid votes, stating that the ballot papers (165,663) were not stamped or signed and therefore declared invalid.
