The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, is reshaping the narrative of governance, as evidenced by a trending video showing construction workers operating at midnight to meet his deadlines.

In the video, workers were seen carrying out tasks at 12 midnight, underscoring Wike’s reputation for pushing the limits to achieve his goals. This approach is reminiscent of his time as Rivers State governor, where he earned the moniker “Mr. Projects” due to his extensive infrastructure projects.

Change of Name

Wike was recognized nationally for his consistency in project facilitation, bagging awards that solidified his reputation as a results-driven leader. Now, he is bringing the same energy to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), transforming Abuja into a hub of modern road networks comparable to those in developed countries.

The minister has also extended his development drive to often-neglected satellite towns such as Bwari, Karshi, and Kubwa, addressing infrastructural deficits in these areas.

In the trending video, comedian Gana captured the ongoing midnight work on a major road in Abuja, commenting in pidgin English:
“See people dey work by 12 midnight till early morning. Na so e suppose be, as dem dey do for abroad where people work at night to avoid traffic. Leader na leader any day, anytime. Who say Wike no dey work, make una come see follow me.”

The video also showcased caterpillars and other heavy machinery actively working on the road.

Since assuming office last year, Wike has turned Abuja into a massive construction site within 100 days. From Asokoro to Maitama, Zone E, Kado, and surrounding areas, various projects are underway, with some already completed.

Known for his strict adherence to deadlines, Wike has zero tolerance for non-performance. Contractors who fail to meet his timelines are promptly removed, ensuring progress remains on track.
