Shocker as PDP supporters shout ‘vote Atiku’ during Wike’s speech at campaign flag-off in Ibadan
The governorship campaign for Seyi Makinde Thursday flagged off with the aggrieved G-5 governors shocked as supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) interjected Nyesom Wike’s speech with shouts of ‘Atiku’.
Governor Makinde earlier invited the Nyesom Wike-led G-5 the for his campaign flag-off in Ibadan.
The governors are: Nyesom Wike (Rivers State), Seyi Makinde (Oyo State), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia State), Samuel Ortom (Benue State), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu State).
Makinde is seeking re-election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The group had been loggerhead with the former Vice President and the presidential candidate of PDP Atiku Abubakar.
In his speech, Wike called on electorate in the State to vote Makinde and other PDP candidates, but failed to canvass votes for Atiku, saying the governor will address you on that.
He said: “Vote for Seyi, vote for the Senator, vote for the House of Reps, vote for the House of Assembly. For the other one (presidency), Seyi would talk to you.”
As Wike failed to mention Atiku the crowd shouted a defeaning ‘vote Atiku Abubakar, until he handed over the microphone.
Wike was.making good his vow that the group would not campaign for Atiku Abubakar who is the presidential candidate of PDP in next month’s general election.
They insisted on the resignation of the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu from office and his replacement with a southerner as the only condition to support Atiku’s 2023 bid.
