Women in Plateau State on Wednesday blocked a popular roundabout in Jos metropolis known as Secretariat Junction, where they protested against the Appeal Court judgement that sacked all the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), National Assembly Members representing the State in Abuja.
The women who comprise both Christians and Muslims said the worries that topped their protest is the forthcoming Appeal Court judgement ruling that will deliver a verdict between the case of Governor Mutfwang of the PDP and the All Progressive Congress (APC), governorship candidate Nentawe Yilwatda in the Plateau 2023 governorship elections.
The PDP women Leader in the State, Mrs Martina Dakur while speaking to Journalists said the Appeal Court should reinstate all the sacked lawmakers for the sake of Justice and should as well stop entertaining pre-election matters and base its judgement on the evidence before it that Governor Mutfwang and all PDP lawmakers won overwhelmingly the 2023 general elections.
Dakur tasked the Appeal Court not to destabilize the fragile peace currently being enjoyed in the State.
However most of the placards carried inscriptions like ‘The ballot is supreme’, ‘Do not kill our democracy’, ‘PDP is alive’, ‘Return people’s mandate’, and ‘We want justice’; amongst many others.
Also speaking, the former Minister of Water Resources Hon. Sarah Reng Ochekpe accused the APC of using the Appeal court to force unpopular candidates who were rejected at the poll by the people during the 2023 general elections.
Ochekpe said the APC wants to force itself into power through the back door.
“When it has to do with people from Plateau state, it will become both pre-election and post-election matters. So what are they telling us or is Plateau State not in Nigeria? The whole thing is so disheartening that is causing serious tension in the state as the mandate of the people is being taken away by the Court of Appeal.”
They also noted that the Judiciary which is supposed to be the hope of the common man is now becoming something else while calling on the relevant authorities and those who want to steal the power of the people through the back doors to have a rethink.
According to them Plateau people will stand firm with Governor Caleb Mutfwang and urge the Court of Appeal and the judiciary as a whole to do justice, not injustice as was done to the elected Plateau lawmakers from the state.
