Nigerian-American joins California’s gubernatorial race in U.S

A Nigerian born turned American citizen, Dr. Akinyemi Agbede, has joined the California governorship race in the United States of America which comes up next year.

Agbede’s declaration has sparked excitement among his friends and political associates, as he is no stranger to California politics, having previously run for governor in 2014 and 2018, as well as for the U.S. Senate in 2016 and 2022.

Agbede cited the recent rise of Kemi Badenoch, who emerged as the Labour Party leader in the United Kingdom, as a source of inspiration, believing he can achieve a similar milestone in California.

In a statement released on Sunday, Agbede said: “My relentless pursuit of the exalted position of governor in California is borne out of my commitment to serve the diverse communities of California.

“The campaign will focus on educational reform, economic development, and social justice—issues that resonate deeply with voters across the state.”

Born on May 5, 1964, in Lagos, Nigeria, Agbede boasts an impressive academic background, holding a Ph.D. in Mathematical Analysis from the University of Cambridge.
