As reactions continue to trail bill to regulate rents in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, which was sponsored by Senator Smart Adeyemi representing Kogi West Senatorial district, the National President of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Olayemi Shonubi has kicked against the proposed bill.
The NIQS President who spoke in Abuja when he officially commissioned the NIQS FCT Chapter’s office, said rent issues should be left to the parties directly involved in it.
Shonubi who noted that it would be difficult legislating on rent issues, wondered why a government that has failed to provide affordable housing estates for rent, wants to regulate what the private developers are doing.
The bill has scaled second reading awaiting a public hearing.
