Niger State Chief Judge frees 13 inmates in Minna
Thirteen inmates who have been languishing in Minna old Medium Correctional Custodial Center have regained their freedom through the magnanimity of the Chief Judge of Niger State Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik.
The Chief Judge who was on a three day working visit to the facility granted the inmates freedom after reviewing their case files.
Other inmates who breath the air of freedom includes those that their case files could not be traced to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution in the Ministry of Justice and the men of the Legal unit of the State Criminal investigation and intelligence department (SCIID).
Equally the chief judge granted bail to some inmates who have been in detention without bail but which the chief judge reviewed their files.
Among the inmates that received the blessings of the Chief Judge include those that the police framed them with frivolous charges and were dumped in the Custodial center for over four years without being taken to court for trial.
Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik also released a mother of five who was identified as Hadiza Ilya after she was incarcerated on allegation that she aided and abetted a crime, but which the police failed to prove the allegation against her.
She also looked into the case of some inmates on awaiting trial without being taken to court for prosecution, and directed the Magistrates on her entourage to give them summary trial.
The chief judge admonished the released inmates to see their freedom as an opportunity for them to refrain from an act of crime and criminality stating that they should learn from their experiences while in detention.
The State Controller of Correctional Services Niger State Command, Alhaji Salmanu Abdulkadir commended the chief judge for her magnanimity in decongesting the Custodial facility
He noted that her three days exercise in the Custodial center will go along way in decongesting the facility and bringing relief to the inmates
