NCC’s Maida seeks partnership with EFCC to tackle internet fraud
The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida has disclosed the readiness of the Commission to partner with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to tackle internet fraud in Nigeria.
He stated this while on a courtesy visit to the anti-graft headquarters recently in Abuja, recalling that both agencies have been partnering for a long time, while he congratulated the Chairman of the EFCC boss on his appointment.
Dr Maida said, his visit to the EFCC was a step in deepening the conversation and cooperation between both agencies, while he recalled that the anti-graft agency had once facilitated the forensic training of some NCC personnel.
According to him, internet fraud is so sophisticated that it requires cooperation of both agencies to tackle which will in a long way assist in achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
Reacting, the EFCC boss, Ola Olukoyede called for collaboration to tackle the prevailing internet fraud, saying fraudsters are using internet as a gateway for their crimes and called on the NCC to be stricter in its regulatory work.
“If authorities enforce the law and regulators work together, it will not be business as usual. Collaboration is necessary because crime is driven by technology.”
