NASS: Sani Tambuwal setting the pace for staff welfare

The Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Magaji Tambuwal will be barely six month in office and he has already set the pace for staff walfare in a geometric progression such that their salaries and enumerations will be beneficial for a better standard of living comparable to other parts of the world irrespective of the barterring economy accompanied by high cost of living in the country.
This was what Tambuwal dreamed of before becoming the CNA.
As Clerk to the National Assembly, he is responsible for the day-to-day management and functioning of the National Assembly, and will be taking decisions of the Commission relating to National Assembly matters.
The Clerk will also implement the Commission resolutions on all matters relating to appointment, promotion, and discipline of staff.
As well as assigned duties, supervision and training of staff with legislative aides.
The Clerk will take responsibilities of staff deployment that will serve in any other areas of urgent needs that the Commission might determine.
These among others are duties to be executed by Sani Magaji Tambawal as the CNA to the National Assembly and immediately he assumed office, he swung into action by promising the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) that he was committed to their welfare.
He said he knows their pains and will do something to improve their standard of living.
Assurring them that as CNA, he will operate an open-door policy with the hope of achieving results in order to reciprocate a high sense of responsibility in tackling issues concerning management and staff welfarism.
The CNA also promise to ensure that no PASAN member will be maltreated or discriminated against or made to suffer injustice in the National Assembly.
While also appealling to staff to support the Principals officers and legislators to achieve their aspirations for them to give quality representation to their constituents and the nation.
The clerk stressed the need for unity, co-operation, mutual dialogue and respect for transparency, accountability, due process and the rule of law in their daily activities to all members in the national Assembly.
He re-iterated that the management of the National Assembly is meant to provide a critical support system to the federal legislators , in order to work efficiently and effectively in lawmaking and oversight functions.
Tambuwal said he will ensure prompt payment of salaries to staff and legislative aides allowances and other emoluments with it’s attendant in boosting the overall staff morale for productivity.
Adding that all appointments, promotions and deployments will be effected in strict compliance with relevant public service, rules, regulations and guidelines with no room for sacred cows.
And since he took over the mantle of leadership as CNA he has achieved this feat by promt payment of salaries and emoluments of staff with backlog arising within his six months in office and has embark on renovating the deface bulding structures of the National Assembly as well as enhancing staff promotions in accordance with laid down laws and regulations.
His promises are already in effect as he has set in machenism for staff training for effective results and service delivery.
He organised a five day workshop training for management and staff of the national assembly in Lagos .
This was done for capacity building and strenthening the workfore for a harmonious Relationship for service delivery.
Tambuwal also has restructured the Directorate of Human Resources in order to enhance productivity and efficiency .
He has also made an improvement in the health department as the clinic is jarked with facilities and drugs to cater for staff needs.
Tambuwal within his six month in office has paid outstanding minimum wage, and entitlements to staff.
Also created two additional Department in order to facilited service delivery.
The CNA came into national assembly on transfer from sokoto state House of Assembly as a management staff and was promoted to sensitive positions including that of director of Budget in 2017, Permanent Secretary (Finance and Accounts) and then appointed CNA by the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) in an acting capacity and subsiquent confirmation.
