NASS Director, Aje gets award, celebrates achievements in office

A Deputy Director working with the National Assembly, Mr Abah, Christian Aje has been awarded a Distinguished Fellow and Doctor of Philosophy for his immense contributions to the public service.

The award which was given by the renowned Institute of Leadership Manpower and Management Development penultimate week was in recognition of Mr Aje’s contribution not only to the public service, but to his community which he has been commended by the community leaders, Royal fathers and political office holders from his immediate and sorrounding communities.

He is a philantropist, a bureaucrat and humane who would not want to people wallowing in challenges without his intervention.

In his address before the plaque was handed over to him at a colourful award ceremony in Abuja, the Executive Director of the
Institute of Leadership Manpower and Management Development commended him for the provision of infrastructure in his community using his personal funds

In his words: “In assessment of his community development and leadership prowess, Mr Christian Aje has done well.

“He hasn’t rained a great number of youths in Schools, installed electricity in Owukpa dug boreholes and Al on.”

He hails from Benue State in the North Central Nigeria and he is an alumunus of Ahmadu Bello University, Nasarawa State University and the National Open University.

Mr Aje who has been on various leadership positions is currently a Deputy Director in National Assembly.

He a well travelled public servant with vast working experience, even in the hospitality industry.

He belong to several professional bodies, including a fellow, Chartered Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria, Global Member Professional Society, United Kingdom etc.

Luis Suárez signs new Inter Miami contract through to 2025

Inter Miami forward Luis Suárez signed a one-year contract extension, meaning he will continue to star in Major League Soccer next season.

Suarez, who joined the Herons on a one-year contract on in December, tied for second place in the MLS Golden Boot race and earned a nomination to the 2024 MLS newcomer of the year award.

“I’m very happy, very excited to continue for another year and to be able to enjoy being here with this fanbase, which for us is like family. We feel very, very connected with them, and hopefully, next year, we can bring them even more joy,” Suárez said.

The forward recorded 21 goals and 10 assists in 30 MLS matches to help inspire Inter Miami to the 2024 Supporter’s Shield and set the league record for most points in a single season.

“Luis Suarez has been an amazing addition to the league, what he did this year was spectacular,” co-owner Jorge Mas said.

“In 2024, Luis brought to Inter Miami all of the elements that make him one of the greatest strikers of all time. He performed at an elite level for us, and we’re excited to see that continue next season,” added president of football operations Raúl Sanllehí. “Luis was not only our leading scorer this season, but also a leader for the group. His impact cannot be understated.”

Suarez will reunite with former Barcelona teammate Javier Mascherano, who will join the club as head coach on a two-year contract. The two played together in LaLiga, alongside Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.

Suarez’s contract extension stands as the first roster move for Inter Miami during the offseason, with more expected as the deadline to exercise options and submit bona fide offers approaches on Nov. 27.

Godswill Akpabio United Football Club berth in Uyo, set to take football scene by storm

Wife of the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio; Mrs Unoma Akpabio, on Tuesday, formally unveiled the Godswill Akpabio United Football Club (GAUFC), saying “our vision and mission into Nigeria’s football scene, is to create a world class club, that will compete at the highest level.

She stated this in her speech at the official unveiling of the football club in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

According to her, “It is my honor and privilege to stand before you today to officially launch the Godswill Akpabio United Football Club, (GAUFC). This momentous occasion marks the beginning of a new era in Nigerian football, and we are thrilled to have you all as part of this journey.”

The former First Lady, thanked the President of the Senate, for his support and encouragement which led to the official unveiling of the club, saying, ” I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our number one fan and supporter; President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON for his unwavering support and commitment to the development of football in Nigeria, which started with the construction of a world class stadium and sports complex in our dear state and by extension Nigeria.


YE,Sir, your vision and leadership have inspired us to create a platform that will nurture and showcase the talents of young Nigerian footballers.

Speaking further, Akpabio noted, ” GAUFC is more than just a football club. It is a symbol of hope, unity and excellence. NFF holds match commissioners’ seminar in Asaba

All is set for the Nigeria Football Federation’s match commissioners’ seminar (southern conference) for this year, which is billed to take place at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Delta State on Friday.

Chairman of the NFF Match Commissioners’ Appointment Committee, Alhaji Babagana Kalli, told thenff.com that the Chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee, Alhaji Sharif Rabiu Inuwa, will represent the NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau and declare the programme open on Friday morning.

Former Vice Chairman of the Imo State Football Association, Sir Emma Ochiagha and Secretary of the NFF Match Commissioners’ Appointment Committee, Mr. Danlami Alanana are the resource persons for the one-day event.

Alanana disclosed that the objective of the seminar is to re-acquaint the match commissioners in the Nigeria National League (NNL), the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) and the Nationwide League One (NLO) with both the rudiments and the fine points of match reporting, and to also emphasize the high importance of credible match reporting, as organizers always rely on their match reports to take decisions in case of crises or controversies.

Last year’s southern conference seminar (the first of its kind) was held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, while the northern conference seminar took place in the city of Kano.
