N82 billion fraud: American International School’s reply reveals Yahaya Bello overpaid children fees

Facts of how the embattled former governor of Kogi State Yahaya Adoza Bello has emerged through an investigation been carried out by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Bello paid the sum of $845,852.84 into the account of American International School for his children who are schooling there.

Change of Name

The amount which was paid on 7th September, 2021 was meant to take care of their learning till they graduated from the school which Bello will no longer be in office as Governor.

In the EFCC’s letter Reference: CR:300/EFCC/LS/PFS/TC/45-21/Vol.4/188 addressed to the school intimating the management that Yahaya Bello is being investigated over stealing and money laundering, a reply from the school which was obtained by CAPITAL POST on Friday, the American International School admitted that Yahaya Bello paid the sum of $845,852.84, while the actual school fees stood at $760,910.84 with the sum of $84,942 as over payment.

The School however agreed to refund the over payment, while it requested for a formal letter from the anti-graft agency for refund of the differences.

Part of the American International School letter read: “Please forward to us an official written request, with the authentic banking details of the EFCC for the refund of the above-mentioned funds as previously indicated as part of your investigation into the alleged money laundering activities by the Bello family.

“Since the 7th September, 2021 to date, $845,852.84 in tuition and other fees has been deposited into our Bank Account.

“We have calculated the net amount to be transferred and refunded to the State, after deducting the educational services rendered as $760,910.84.

“No further additional fees are expected in respect of tuition as the students school fees have now been settled until they graduate from Asia.”

“Should any further deposits be made into ASIA’s bank accounts, we will disclose and inform you immediately without delay.”
