Lagos Assembly Crisis: Meranda presides over tension-soaked plenary on Monday

Lagos State House of Assembly crisis continued unabated on Monday as the Speaker of Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda presided over tension-soaked plenary as a result of the invasion of operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS into the Chamber.

Operatives of the DSS reported sealed the Chamber, office of the Speaker to prevent the plenary from holding, yet lawmakers forcefully held sitting amid the invasion.

The DSS officials and legislative workers backed lawmakers and took upon themselves to confront the DSS at the exit door of the Chamber.
The lawmakers had earlier forced their way into the chamber around 12:30 pm amid solidarity support from the assembly workers.
In the fisticuff with the DSS, workers overpowered them and created way for lawmakers to enter the Chamber for their sitting.
The crisis was due to the insistence of the former Speaker Mudashir Obasa to return to the office after his impeachment.
Our correspondent reports that no fewer than 10 police vans are stationed at the assembly gate.
