Institute working to bridge gaps, promote sustainable development in Nigeria
The Director, Institute of Development Communication (ISDEVCOM), Nasarawa State University, Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura, has expressed confidence that the annual International Conference on Communication and Development in Africa, was aimed at bridging existing communication gaps to promote sustainable development in Nigeria, and Africa.
Prof. Dandaura disclosed this while delivering the open remarks at the ongoing 3rd International Conference with the theme, “Strategic Security and Health Communication for Sustainable Development in Africa” organised by ISDEVCOM at Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
He maintained that the Conference was geared towards examining the various issues in the domain of communication as well as the connection between communication and development and urged participants and paper presenters to explore the opportunities presented by the two days conference, to make quality contributions needed for sustainable development.
He said: “Our interest is how to make development accessible to the common man through the various platforms of communication.
“We hope that from the over 100 papers and the over 200 participants registered for this year’s Conference, we would have contributed to reducing some of the issues Nigeria is facing in the areas of security and the challenges in health.”
Prof. Dandaura further commended the contributions of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Suleiman Bala Usman for his immense contributions to the growth of the Institute since assumption of office in Acting capacity.
Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK), Prof. Suleiman Bala Usman who commended ISDEVCOM for consistently creating a platform for cross fertilization of ideas critical for sustainable development in Nigeria and Africa in general, said he was proud of the work being carried out by the Institute.
According to Prof. Usman, the theme, Strategic Security and Health Communication for Sustainable Development in Africa,’ was apt and relevant for the nation and continent’s existence saying, “there is no better time than now when we are being ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The Vice Chancellor urged participants to critically examine the theme of the Institute and advised the paper presenters to equally do justice to all papers to ensure national and international development.
