I became amok, hospitalised after my N500m movie leaked online – Toyin Abraham
Popular actress, Toyin Abraham has revealed how she became amok and rushed to a hospital immediately she saw unauthorized sharing of her latest movie titled, Malaika that cost her over N500 million.
She said, Malaika movie was released exclusively in cinemas on December 15, 2023, but Abraham came across it on a social media platform and was distressed by the illegal circulation of the film. She spoke to the media at the Federal Investigation Department of the Nigeria Police Force in Alagbon, Ikoyi, where some individuals associated with the unauthorized distribution of the movie were paraded.
Expressing her dismay at the situation, she stated that the experience had taken a toll on her, leading to panic attacks and a hospital visit. Abraham narrated how she felt as if her world was collapsing when she discovered the leaked movie and the subsequent plan to upload it on Telegram.
The actress also mentioned her efforts to combat the piracy issue, emphasizing that it was not just about her movie, Malaika, but a broader concern for the creative and entertainment industry. She stressed the financial repercussions of the unlawful sharing of her film, as many people chose to wait for its free online release, causing significant financial losses.
Despite the setbacks, she expressed her determination to fight for the entertainment and creative industry, highlighting the importance of the cause over financial considerations.
