Anambra Primaries: INEC warns against sudden changes

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has urged political parties to strictly follow their schedules for the upcoming Anambra State governorship primaries.

In a statement on Thursday, INEC reminded parties that primaries would hold between March 20 and April 10, 2025, as outlined in the election timetable.

“So far, 12 out of 19 registered political parties have submitted their schedules. The remaining seven are urged to do so immediately,” said Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.
He warned that last-minute changes to dates, venues, and modes of primaries could disrupt INEC’s monitoring efforts and increase election costs.
“Sudden changes lead to avoidable demobilisation and remobilisation of our monitoring staff, thereby disrupting the Commission’s workflow,” Olumekun stated.
INEC had earlier published the Notice of Election on November 13, 2024, in line with Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2022. The Anambra governorship election is scheduled for November 8, 2025.
