El-Rufai denies defecting to PDP, threatens legal action
Former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has denied reports that he dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The embattled El-Rufai gave clarification on his X handle, (formally Twitter) on Sunday, describing the report as patent lies and rumours, warning those behind the rumour or speculation to desist, even as he disclosed that the report has been referred to his lawyers.
El-Rufai described the reports as “patent lies and rumors” about his political affiliation.
El-Rufai said, as founding member of APC, he couldn’t have dumped the party which made him governor of Kaduna State
Having insisted that he has no alliance with the PDP, this may have put to rest prolong rumours that he defected to the PDP ahead of 2027 general election.
It’s worth noting that El-Rufai has been a vocal critic of the PDP in the past, and his denial of joining the party is consistent with his previous stance. The former governor has been known for his strong views on politics and governance, and his statement is a testament to his commitment to transparency and accountability.
