Professor Peter A. Okebukola, Chairman of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG), has described Professor Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB, as a “showpiece for accountability and transparency” in Africa.

In a statement addressing allegations surrounding JAMB’s 2025 budget, Okebukola dismissed the claims as baseless, citing a press release from JAMB’s Public Affairs Officer, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, which clarified that the accusations were “totally unfounded and based on misinformation.”

CAPITAL POST recalled that the JAMB Registrar was accused by the Joint NASS Committee of spending N1.1 billion on meals and refreshments, while the sum of N850 million was spend on security, insecticide and and other sundry expenses which he could not generate revenue well enough to cover expenses

Okebukola, who has worked closely with Oloyede for seven years in his role as JEOG Chairman, praised the Registrar’s commitment to financial integrity and administrative excellence in his public and private endeavours

The statement by the former Executive Secretary of the National University Commission,NUC reads:, “as the Chairman of the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG), a position I have held with pride and dedication for the past seven years, I thought it fit to address the allegations relating to the 2025 budget of JAMB where Professor Is-haq Oloyede serves as Registrar. Happily, as I was to address the press on the issue, the Board’s Public Affairs Officer, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, eased my mental pain with his press release that the allegations are “totally unfounded and based on misinformation.”

“I have had the privilege of working closely with Professor Oloyede for seven years as Chairman of JEOG and have witnessed firsthand his unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellence in managing the affairs of JAMB. Under his exemplary leadership, JAMB has not only upheld the highest standards of financial integrity but has also become a showpiece for the entire African continent, setting a benchmark for transparency and accountability in public institutions.

“I have not had the faintest whiff of any financial misdemeanour where Professor Oloyede is concerned. His meticulous approach to budgeting and financial management has ensured that every Naira is accounted for, and all expenditures are judiciously planned and executed. The transformative initiatives he has implemented have significantly improved the efficiency and effectiveness of JAMB’s operations, benefiting millions of students across Nigeria.

“It is important that as a nation, we support leaders who have shown proven dedication to serving the public good. Professor Is-haq Oloyede remains a paragon of professional excellence.

‘I stand firmly in support of Professor Is-haq Oloyede and his continued efforts to uphold the values of transparency and accountability at JAMB. His leadership has been instrumental in transforming JAMB into a model institution, and I am confident that he will continue to serve with distinction”.
