Confessions of Bandit informants: We were paid N130,000 to give out information

In Katsina State, North West Nigeria, three bandits’ informants, Muttaka Ibrahim, Suleiman Rabiu and Surajo, who are natives of Bakori LGA, said, they were given N130,000 to give out information to bandits.

The confessions followed their arrest by the officials of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigerian Police Force after two children of Hon. Ibrahim Aminu were kidnapped in Katsina.

Hon. Aminu is a serving member representing Bakori State Constituency in Katsina State House of Assembly.
In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Katsina State Police Command, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, he said the suspects were nabbed through a credible information.
He said their arrest was made possible after discovering their mode of operation.
Adejobi said: “Sequel to the intelligence reports on the activities of the deadly criminal gangs by IRT operatives attached to the Operation Restore Hope of the Force in Yankwani village and Kurani town, the team swung into action and arrested the suspects in their various hideouts.”
Further speaking, the spokesman revealed that one of the suspects identified as Muttaka Ibrahim confessed to giving out information that led to the kidnap of the lawmaker’s family members and stated that he and the other culprits were informants for Sanni Tukur aka Abacha, who has been terrorising the people of the villages and towns in Katsina and Zamfara State.
The suspect further revealed to the police how he was paid the sum of N130,000 by the bandit leader and mentioned that one Yusuf Bala of Zaria was his accomplice.
Meanwhile, Hon. Aminu revealed that he paid the sumnof N37.5 million to the gang leader to secure the release of his family members.
