Childrens Day 2021: Hon. Ossai calls for urgent domestication of the Child Right Acts, review of schools curriculum to include ICT, vocational skills

The Ndokwa Representative, Rt. Hon. (Rev.) Dr. Ossai Nicholas Ossai, Chairman House Committee on Treaties, Protocols and Agreements has called for urgent national priority for the domestication of Nigeria’s Child’s Right Acts across all states of the federation and a review of the primary school curriculum in Nigeria to equip children with modern skills in digital technology and other relevant skills, set to help them prepare for a brighter future.

In a special message to Ndokwa/Ukwuani children and Nigerians. The Ndokwa Representative stated that Children’s Day is a special time that gives stakeholders an opportunity to promote internal togetherness to deliberately invest in a prosperous future of children, implement advocacy programs and raise awareness about the problems children face everyday, and also improve children’s care, safety and welfare.

Hon. Dr. Ossai Nicholas Ossai said “the insecurity situation in the country today is dangerous to the future and safety of children and impedes children’s general development as many children have been displaced, forced out of school and into child labour amongst other issues.”

“Children are the heritage of the Lord and a special gift from God to humanity, thus policy makers and all stakeholders must join forces to secure bright future for all children. Relevant agencies of government should as a matter of national priority review all lessons and academic content of programs and activities taught in public primary and secondary schools to include digital technology, coding, programming, graphics and other relevant vocational skill sets as a paradigm shift from the current ‘how to read and write system.”

Hon. Dr. Ossai Nicholas Ossai further expressed concern at the current status of the Child’s Rights Acts (2003) in Nigeria. He said “the CRA (2003), which is the law that guarantees the rights of all children in Nigeria has only been so far adopted by 24 out of 36 states of Nigeria. I call on the remaining 12 states to do the needful and also all the states to commence a concerted roadmap to ensure full implementation of the lofty provisions of the Act through strategic integration of its provisions and aspirations into their policy and development plans.”

The Ndokwa Representative who has received several commendations for his quality legislative interventions in education and life long learning of Ndokwa children through construction of several classroom blocks and furniture across the constituency to improve school enrollment and improve conditions of learning for both pupils and teachers, building and equipping of several ICT centres with functional computers, inverters, and phased internet access to build the capacities of the pupils in digital technology, donation of over twenty five thousand text/reference books in sciences, mathematics, literature, writing books compendium of past questions/answers, mentorship/interventionist scholarship schemes and other educational supplies, said he is committed to building a bright future for Ndokwa/Ukwuani children and he believes one of the best ways to deliver brighter future for the children is through quality education.

“I strongly believe in the future of children and I will continue to use the access and privileges of my office to create a brighter, better and prosperous sustainable future for Ndokwa children to the Glory of God. I call on all parents to bring up their children in the consciousness that their talents must be devoted to the service of their fellow men and God in honesty, truth, honour, fairness and justice”; He said.

The Ndokwa Representative used the opportunity to wish Ndokwa/Ukwuani children and Nigerians happy children’s day with love.
