Call for sack of Service Chiefs unwarranted – Youth group

A youth group under the aegis of Nigerian Patriotic Youth for Good Governance has described the call for the sack of Chief of Defence Staff and other Service Chiefs as not in National interest.

The group spoke at a World Press Conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

Recall that the call for the sack of the Security Chiefs by groups and individuals follows concern over recent insecurity threat in the Federal Capital Territory and other parts of the country.
Speaking in defense for the Military, the Coordinator of the youth group, Barr. Abdulmalik Attahiru, said those making the call are not making it in National interest but to serve the interest of their pay masters.
He also emphasised that the Military under the leadership of Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa is making concerted efforts to tackle the issue of insecurity headlong.
According to him, “There is no iota of doubt that in the recent time, there have been pockets of cases of kidnapping within the Territory of Abuja and lo and behold, concerted effort is being made to frontally confront the trend.
“We cannot be oblivious of the copious facts that arrests has been made, investigation is in top gear and those fomenting insecurity within the territory of Abuja and Nigeria at large will soon be brought to book ultimately. There is no hidden place for criminals in Nigeria. They will be brought to book regardless of who they are and where they are.
“Gentlemen of the press, we must not forget that the fundamental mandate of the Nigerian Armed Forces is to protect the territorial integrity of Nigeria from external invasion/aggression. The Nigerian Military has done a lot in this regard. They have made a lot of sacrifices to keep Nigeria relatively safe and orderly. They are not resting on their oars. They are working round the clock in collaboration with sisters security agencies to restore security, peace and stability to Nigeria.
“Gentlemen of the press, we want to tell you categorically that the Armed Forces under Gen. C.G. Musa is doing tremendously well in the area of restoring stability to Nigeria. He is a talk and do Military General. He has carved a niche for himself within the military architecture in Nigeria. Commitment to duty and dedication to service has been his watch word. He has always distinguished himself in all the places he served.
“General C.G. Musa Military carrier and antecedents is spotless and unblemished. As Commandant Depot, Nigerian Army, 2015-2017, his legacies has continued to linger. When he was Theatre Commander JTF North East Operation Hadin Kai, he performed exceptionally well by championing the unimaginable decimation of Boko Haram in the North East. Those who are calling for his head and the heads of the Service Chiefs do not mean well for Nigeria. Their call is unpatriotic and self centered. What they require from Nigerians is encouragement and not discouragement”.
The Youth group however urged Nigerians to report suspicious moves by criminals to the Security Agencies.
“We are using this medium to appeal to Nigerians to assist security agencies with intels that will enable them to nip in the bud any security threat pose by criminals in the society. We have a civic duty and responsibility to compliment their efforts to ensure our society is safe and peaceful.
“Gen. C.G. Musa is more than ever determined and resolute in his commitment to confront and destroy criminal enterprises in Nigeria. He needs the support of all Nigerians to tackle insecurity. He is providing the exemplary leadership required to emancipate Nigerians from the grips of criminals and all manner of unhealthy agitations that are capable of causing unrest and tension in Nigeria,” he said.

Nigerian Coast Guard: Citizens warned against extortion as passage of bill is being awaited

The Provisionary Committee of the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard, PC-NCG has warned the general public against extortion in guise of recruitment or enrolment as anyone parading himself as promoter of the Nigerian Coast Guard other than Captain Noah Ichaba is an impostor and a dupe.

In a statement made available to CAPITAL POST on Wednesday, said, this information has become necessary in view of a publication in Vanguard Online of 8thMarch 2025, titled “Coordinator of provisional Nigerian Coast Guard appeals to NASS for bill passage”.

Captain Ichaba urged the public to disregard the information as it is only the PC-NCG that has the right to issue a statement updating Nigerians as the bill awaiting legislative attention would soon be passed into law by the 10th National Assembly.
Part of the statement said: “We respectfully invite the attention of patriotic, impartial and ready to act relevant authorities, misled groups, authentic stakeholders and members of the general public, to note that, the stories regarding the purported acceptance of some Registered Private Maritime Security Groups into the Nigerian Coast Guard, were nothing, but, a brazen criminal impersonation, and a contemptuous cover-up and an act meant to ridicule law enforcement agents and a provocative invitation to acrimonious conflicts.
“Some other persons are ingloriously parading themselves making weird claims without substance, but with the motive to hoodwink the intelligence of members of the general public and the desperate job seekers, whom they are ready to “dagbo”, in the name of recruitment into a non-existing job or organization, and a non-certification training of no value.
“This fraudulent practice, which they have carried out over the years, and which has led to the death of many of their victims or that has fostered disaffection and separation in some families, would not be encouraged to continue with use of the provisional operation platform of the Nigerian Coast Guard.
“While the Facilitation Team of the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard is genuinely concerned with national interest and the future of the unborn Nigerians, these immediate economic package seekers have prided themselves in hot campaign of calumny against PC-NCG.
“This is an evidence that they are persons suffering from last-card hallucination and stressful financial disorder.
“Due to that, they want to make the money and ego by hook or crook. As a result, those they succeed in deceiving becomes their caged victims, with a mirage expectation.
“Their countless but cruel illegalities tumble over one another. The extent of cajoling Registered Private Maritime Security Outfits into a never to work marriage of deception shows the degree of disregard for boundaries. Enough of that imposturous and subversive stance. Enough of mediocrity and underhandedness.
“Enough of the unprovable claim and utter falsehood. These realities have been brought to the fore to evoke appropriate action by relevant authorities, stakeholders, private maritime security practitioners and members of the public, as these are not synonymous with the ideals of selflessly and patriotically pursuing a legitimate cause of facilitating the legal existence of the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard.
“Immediate AIP on appropriate burdens be followed. No two ways about it.
“These realities have been brought to the fore to evoke appropriate action as his sordid actions were not synonymous with the ideals of selflessly and patriotically pursuing a legitimate cause.
“He has succeeded in exposing himself for immediate AIP on criminal charges. No two ways about it.”
