Breaking: Zulum, Military re-open Dikwa-Gamboru Ngala road

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno state and the Nigerian Army have on Friday officially re-opened Maiduguri – Gamboru Ngala – Chad Republic trunk ‘A’ federal highway which is one of the most busiest and popular commercial federal highway linking Borno, state and Chad Republic for road users

While jointly cutting the tape, Govenror Zulum urged the road users to be law abiding and cooperate with the security agencies who are to provide security to them while charging the union leaders of fish and road transport owners to cooperate with the security operatives .

He also promised to continue to support them in any.way possible to boost their businesses and make them self reliant while thanking the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their support and cooperation in maintaining peac and tranquility in the area.

The govenro noted also that it is important that the respective trade unions must also work in synergy with the security agencies and impress on their members to comply with the stated or provided rules and regulations by the security agencies.

While the Theater Commander, JTF Operation Hadin Kai, Theater Command Headquarters Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri,Major General Chris. G. Musa charged the the security team of the road users to be committed and prompt in the discharge of their duties and ensure the safety of lives and property of the road users.

He also called on the road users to always abide by the rules of the security agents who are to provide security to them from Maiduguri down to Gamboru Ngala which is in their own interest to facilitate the transpiration of their goods and services while assuring them adequate security .

The Theater Commander further appreciated the state government for its support and encouragement to the Nigerian Army, particularly, the Theater Command in it’s efforts and determination to restore permanent peace in the state and region while assuring an end to the Insurgency soon this year

It will be recalled that the road was closed following incessant boko Haram terrorists attacks along the axis and communities but re-opened about three years ago for motorists and riders with military JTF escorts.

Although, the road was later being opened periodically for travellers on official engagements to and from Dikwa and Gamboru Ngala or for military JTF operations to counter boko Haram terrorists attacks before last year, the State Govenro, Babagana Umara Zulum and the Nigerian Army jointly opened Maiduguri–Mafa – Dikwa road for fishermen and skins and hides dealers.

But the road became inaccessible again as a result of the renewed boko Haram members attacks on the commercial.motorists, looting goods and killing passengers as well as setting heavy long vehicles carrying goods from Maiduguri to Gamboru Ngala including burying improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Therefore, sequel to recent calls and appeals by Govenror Zulum to the federal government and Nigerian military on the reopening of major roads linking Maiduguri, the state capital for the purpose of boosting socio economic and political activities of the state, today the road is reopened.

Zulum however provided the Nigerian military, Vigilante Hunters and CJTF that will work along the road axis with over 20 patrol vehicles along with logistics and allowances to facilitate their operations of the security operatives that will operate along the road and provide escort to the Motorists

With the reopening of the major and popular road, Motorists and other road users now are free to play the road unrestricted and atimes with escorts to Gamboru Ngala and from Dikwa opening doors and gateways to th traders, investors ands businessmen and women engage in their socio economic activities, especially, the popular and famous Sahara Trade.
