Bala dumps Atiku, invites G-5 governors for campaign flag-off
Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed has dumped the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and has withdrawn his support for him.
This followed a prolong running battle
Atiku who is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hence, Bala Mohammed has invited the G-5 camp to his campaign flag-off schedules for Wednesday in Bauchi.
The G5 governors are Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu and Samuel Ortom of Benue who have been battling with the party, even as they vowed not to support Atiku Abubakar.
Bala who is contesring for a second of office has claimed that Atiku’s loyalists are working to frustrate him from elected.
Bala stated that Atiku was threatening to ‘punish’ him for contesting against him in the presidential primary which held in May last year, according to a letter he addressed to the National Chairman of PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.
He stated that “I may withdraw from the PCC and feel free to create new measures and strategies that would guarantee the election and re-election of all PDP candidates in Bauchi and myself” if the issues were not resolved.
Bauchi governor has turned to the aggrieved G-5 governors who were expected to assist his re-election in view of the lingering crisis with the Peoples Democratic Party fold in Bauchi State.
The G-5 governors under the leadership of Nyesom Wike, it was gathered, have agreed honour the invitation and would fly to Bauchi on Wednesday.
The source said, “As I speak with you, the G-5 governors are ready to attend Bala Mohammed’s campaign flag-off in Bauchi. All arrangements have been concluded, and I can confirm that to you. Except any new development comes up which I do not envisage, the governors will be in Bauchi.”
The source also hinted that the G-5 which will be G-6 with Bala Mohammed likely to join them will proceed to Ibadan Oyo State capital to join governor Oluseyi
Makinde for his campaign flag-off on Thursday.
When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the Oyo State Governor, Taiwo Adisa, said: “Yes, I can confirm to you that all is set for the flag-off of his excellency’s campaign on Thursday.”
