Ata Igala urged to disband socio-cultural association leadership amid confidence crisis, insensitivity to plight of Kingdom

Serious crisis has rocked the Igala socio-cultural group, Igala Cultural and Development Association, ICDA over incompetence, leadership failure and insensitivity to the plight of Igala Kingdom.

In a protest statement by the Forum Chairman, Barrister Muhammed Makoji Baba and General Secretary, Ambassador John Ali Patrick on Monday, accused the current ICDA executive of ineffective and visionlessness.

The Forum, having passed a vote of no confidence on the Air Commodore Abdullahi leadership, urged the His Royal Majesty, Ata Igala Dr Mathew Alaji Opaluwa to disband the ICDA leadership with immediate effect.
This is even as fourteen affiliate associations have passed a vote of no confidence on the Retired Comodore Ahmed Abdullahi leadership for his inability to initiate any meaningful adventure in the last six months.
Fourteen Associations have come together to pass a Vote of no Confidence on the current leadership of the Igala Cultural and Development Association (ICDA), citing ineffective and visionless leadership.
The Forum said, an all important socio-cultural association such as ICDA should be handled by competeng hands, hence they were calling for vibrant persons to take ovr the leadership.
Part of the statement read: “The associations claim that the present executive, led by Rted Commodore Ahmed Abdullahi, has achieved nothing in six months, lacking focus and in depth knowledge of the workings of ICDA.
“The associations describe the current executive as “myopic and complacent,” causing us to lose total confidence in the leadership.
“We urge the Ata Igala HRM Dr. Mathew Alaji Opaluwa to disband the present executive and replace them with vibrant individuals who share the vision of ICDA’s founding fathers.
“The vote of no confidence is a formal expression of the growing concerns of the Igala people over the lack of action from ICDA.
“We are compelled by the exigency of the moment, we are lacking so many things, the Kingdom is confronted with mirage of problems but the apex association seems not to even know of it, they have abdicated their responsibilities and maintaining absolute silence.
The ICDA is not representing the Igala interest in any way,
hence, we have no option other than to pass a vote of no confidence on the leadership of ICDA.
“A situation whereby all like minds sisters associations across the country are busy speaking for their people and navigating development to their people, why is our own mouthpiece completely mute?
“Who has gagged the voice of ICDA? In Nigeria Government will only look at your direction when your voice is loud and constant.
“Remember the dictum, “if you don’t blow your trumpet nobody will do it for it you. Imagine a trumpet as big as ICDA, the 9th largest descent in the country to be in the cooler like ice blocks.
“The time to work you people are busy sleeping on duty while others are talking loud and demanding for development.
“We are demanding for effective leadership to drive progress and achieve goals. By speaking out, we hope to bring positive change and ensure ICDA remains vibrant, relevant and effective in serving the Igala community, these and many more are our desires.”
Notable association like the Ujache Igala Association among many others passed a vote of no confidence.

Again, explosion rocks gas facility in Rivers

Another explosion has rocked the Soku oil
facility in Akuku Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Sunday’s fire is the second in a week after an explosion hit the Trans Niger Pipeline in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, thus raising concerns of sabotage.

The Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC-Nigeria), a prominent grassroots NGO active across the Niger Delta, confirmed the incident on Sunday, March 23.
In a statement signed by Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface, its executive director, YEAC disclosed that its youth volunteers reported an early morning explosion accompanied by fireballs at the facility, which is operated by Nigeria LNG (NLNG) Limited.
“An explosion accompanied by fireballs was heard and seen in the sky from the facility area, which is difficult to reach. The fire is still ongoing as of the time of this report,” Fyneface stated.
The cause of fire at the gas station in Toru LGA was not yet clear at the time of the press, but speculations about equipment failure to sabotage or even deliberate attack was rife.
It marks the third explosion at oil facilities in Rivers State within a week, intensifying concerns over the state’s oil infrastructure.
The first explosion occurred in Ogoni, while the second took place in Oga/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area. The latter incident was referenced by President Bola Tinubu in his nationwide broadcast on March 18, during which he declared a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State.
In response to the escalating security challenges, President Tinubu took decisive action by suspending the Rivers State House of Assembly, Deputy Governor, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The move followed allegations that the governor failed to protect the state’s critical oil infrastructure.
Tensions have further heightened following a viral video in which some youths issued warnings against the governor’s impeachment.
The recent string of explosions has raised alarm among stakeholders in the Niger Delta, a region already grappling with environmental degradation and security issues tied to oil production. With fires still raging at the Soku facility, calls for an urgent investigation and enhanced security measures around oil infrastructure have grown louder.
