APC Women leader reveals how El-Rufai travelled to Abuja 500 times to change Shehu Sani for Uba in 9th Senate, says Kaduna governor ungrateful

A women leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Hajia Maryam Suleiman has slammed Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, alleging disloyalty to the former governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai within a short time that he became the governor, describing him as ungrateful with short memory.

In a video which has gone viral and sighted in Abuja on Monday, Mrs Suleiman criticized Uba Sani and recalled how in 2019 the former governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai travelled almost 500 times to lobby the party chieftains at the APC headquarters in Abuja to ensure that Senator Shehu Sani was replaced with Uba to represent Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly.

Speaking in Hausa, Mrs Suleiman who is popularly called Mai Rusau until her suspension was the Women leader of Badarawa/Mailali Ward of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Kaduna State, saying El-Rufai fought hard and took risk to remove Senator Shehu Sani out of the way for Uba who was considered loyal at the time.
Meanwhile, the outburst earned her a suspension from the party as a letter which was obtained by DAILY POST on Monday, dated 31st March, 2024 and signed by the Ward Chairman, Ali Maishago and Secretary, Saka Bassahuwa respectively, cited gross misconduct for criticizing governor Uba Sani and was subsequently suspended.
Part of the letter read: “The Badarawa/Mailali Ward APC Executive Committee after due deliberations and careful examination on the viral video clip released on 30th March, 2024 via Social Media network: Facebook, Watshapp, and Tiktok which is against the constitution of our dear party, APC as stated in Article 21.2(v).
“Subsequently, the party relied on defamation of character of his Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Uba Sani.
“Unauthorised Publicity of the party dispute that discredited the personalityof the Executive Governor of Kaduna State. From today, Sunday 31st March, the leadership of APC in Badarawa/Malali Ward unanimously resolved to suspend Hajiya Maryam Suleiman from the party pending further investigation on the matter from the constituted authority.”
Speaking with Senator Shehu Sani who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District on Monday, he recalled how he was blocked by the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai when he attempted to return to the 9th Senate.
According to him, the governor blocked his return to the Senate because he stopped him from accessing the sum of $350 million World Bank loan when he was the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, insisting that he did that in the interest of the people of Kaduna State, as the debt handing on the State was more than revenue accruing to the State at the time.
He said: “As Senate Committee Chairman on Local and Foreign Debts in the 8th Senate, I did block El-Rufai from accessing the sum of $350 million loan after I have analysed critically the huge debt that was hanging on the State at the time. I did that out of genuine interest for the State and not out of malice, but, it became an offence, El-Rufai used against me.”

SDP State Chairmen caution set boundaries for new entrants

Disturbed by the alleged disdain for the Social Democratic Party, SDP leadership structure by the new entrants, the forum of State Chairmen of SDP has*cautioned its leadership structure must be recognized, respected and not tampered with.

The Forum said, it has confidence the SDP leadership structure, warning some high profile politicians defecting to the party not to move against or alter its core identity.

This caution was contained in a communiqué issued on Thursday at the Green Minds Hotel Conference Centre in Abuja, declaring full support for the SDP’s National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, and National Secretary, Dr. Olu Agunloye, adding their effort in repositioning the party was well noted and worth applauding.
Recently the SDP has swollen up with defectors who are high profile politicians, even as the State Chairmen noted that new members must be integrated through proper party channels.
“New members are welcome, but they cannot admit or register themselves,” the communiqué stated, reinforcing that state leadership remains the gateway for party membership.
The forum also warned against any hasty changes to the party’s name, logo, or constitution, insisting that such decisions must undergo thorough deliberation by the National Executive Council (NEC).
Additionally, they rejected any attempts to dissolve democratically elected structures to accommodate new entrants, emphasizing that elected officials must serve their full terms.
Reaffirming SDP’s democratic ethos, the chairmen pledged to resist any moves that could subordinate the party to personal or sectional ambitions.
“The SDP belongs to all Nigerians. It must not be hijacked by any individual or interest group,” they declared.
With elections on the horizon and an influx of political heavyweights into the party, the SDP leadership appears set on preserving its identity while expanding its influence. Whether these internal guidelines will prevent friction or spark further debates remains to be seen.

The Chairman of the Unity and Reconciliation Committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Federal Capital Territory Chapter, Senator Usman Jibril Wowo has appealed to aggrieved members of the party to building bridges of unity rather than internal crisis that does no one any good.

He said, now is a better time to build bridges of unity in the party through the privilege of APC Reconciliation Committee put in place, hence, party members should speak to each other as brothers and sisters.

Senator Wowo said this in Abuja while felicitating with the Muslim Ummah for a successful Ramadan season which culminated in the celebration of the Sallah.
He called on all members of the party to take advantage of the internal reconciliatory structure of the party to vent their issues, for an amicable resolution so that they can amplify the name of the FCT as the Center of Unity.

The former lone Senator of the Federal Capital Territory said the move by the party to reconcile all grieving parties has become important following the unpleasant performance of the party in the last area councils elections.
