Africa should expect less from Trump as it’s America first — Shehu Sani
Ex-lawmaker in the Nigerian Senate and Civil Rights activist, Shehu Sani has advised African leaders to expect less as Donald Trump assumes office as 47th President of the United States of America today.
Sani envisaged that Donald Trump’s administration would pose great challenges to the entire world.
In his X handle (formerly twitter), Sani stated that Donald Trump would want to put America’s relationship with other nations on line, as he is determined to reset everything by going the whole hog including the European Union (EU), United Nations (UN) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). These changes according to Sani would lead to discomfort of other nations.
This attempt will spur hate and resistance by allies and foes, hence, he will not be loved.
Sani tweeted: “Mr Trump takes over the American Presidency today. A disruptor takes power. It’s going to be a great challenge to the World. It’s going to be an American Nationalist and Businessman vs the World.
“He will pull the plug or change the plugs at the UN, EU, NATO and the American relations with the World.
“He will be feared and not loved and will ultimately face resistance by allies and foes. He will try to reset everything and that is where the discomfort will come. Africa should not expect anything much from Trump, even though Biden didn’t do much either.
“Trump is back and sadly without Mugabe. Trump may be the drug the World needs to wake up or to stay awake. However, the World must not give up or compromise its universal human values.”
Since his re-election two months ago, Trump has been vocal about some changes and policies he planned to implement.
With his ‘American First’ stance on trade and migration, Trump may reinstate and expand the restrictive immigration policies of his first term, which means travel bans may be imposed on many African countries.
