Adamawa female governorship candidate, Binani accused of diverting N20 million FG’s cash transfer
Senator representing Adamawa Central Senatorial district and the female governorship candidate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aishatu Dahiru has been accused of allegedly diverted the sum of N20 million conditional cash transfer.
The amount was said to have been released by the Federal government government to support poor people, but the lawmaker allegedly diverted it under pressure of campaign.
Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Fintiri in a statement on Monday in Yola by his Spokesman, Humwashi Wonosikou, said
the N20 million fund was FG’s intervention meant for poor and vulnerable people in the State.
Popularly called “Binani”, Senator Aishatu who is the only Senator from the 19 northern Nigeria had in the primary election defeated male politicians in Adamawa APC to clinch the 2023 governorship ticket.
The statement said, the Social Investment Programme meant for Adamawa worth N20 million has been hijacked in order to promote her political ambition.
The governor described as window dressing, Monday’s empowerment which is aimed at hoodwinking the electorate in the State, insisting that he would not be distracted by that.
“The APC in Adamawa claimed to organize the 20,000 naira conditional cash transfer to the poorest of the poor, which is the social welfare programme of the FG.
“Nobody can use lies to deceive the people of Adamawa state again, as everyone knows about the FG’s social welfare scheme. I will not be distracted by Binani and APC shenanigans.
“It is laughable that Adamawa APC, which boasted of popularity, could hide under the initiative of the FG to claim glory on what it knows nothing about,” he said.
Reacting, the Coordinator of Binani empowerment programme faulted governor Fintiri’s claims, saying that he deliberately refused approval of public building for the distribution of the cash to 1,000 women.
According to Abdalla, the programme was meant for over 1,000 women across all Local Government Councils of Adamawa State which was facilitayed by the lawmaker who represented Adamawa Central Zone to alleviate the suffering of the people.
“It was uncivilized for the government to lock up the place just because of politics.”
The National Social Investment Programme of Nigeria is a social welfare initiative created by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in 2015 under the direction of the National Social Investment Office.
The programme, which has gulped billions of naira, has been marred by allegations of corruption.
