Abdullahi Sule’s camp in panic mood as LP guber candidate step down for PDP candidate ahead of poll
Nasarawa State governor, Engr Abdullahi Sule’s camp is currently panicking as the Labour Party governorship candidate,
Joseph Ewuga, has stepped down for the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, David Ombugadu.
The development has sent jitters down the spine of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, which the incumbent governor is seeking a return for a second term of office.
The LP candidate made his stand known at a press conference on Wednesday, noting that it was in the interest of rebuilding Nasarawa State and a belief in the desire for change among the people that he has stepped down.
Ewuga revealed that it was a collective decision of Labour Party supporters having consulted them, hence, they shall join forces with the Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party to defeat APC’s Abdullahi Sule at the governorship poll.
The LP candidate insisted on patriotic commitment to Nasarawa State that he stepped down and not about his personal interest, believing that Ombugadu has capacity to lead Nasarawa State.
Responding, the PDP governorship candidate, Ombugadu expressed his gratitude to Ewuga for his decision to step down and pledged to work closely with him to deliver on their shared vision for the state.
Ombugadu called on other opposition parties to form alliance with him in order to end the reign of APC in Nasarawa State.
As the development was the subject of discussion in Lafiia, capital of Nasarawa State and other Local Governments on Wednesday, our correspondent reports that the camp of the All Progressives are not at ease.
A woman leader who didn’t want her name mentioned said the rejection of APC in Nasarawa started from the primary election for candidates in May last year when some people were denied tickets.
She lamented the dismal performance of APC at the presidential and parliamentary elections a fortnight ago, saying: “You see how we lost election to smaller parties in the Senatorial elections.
“As I speak, it’s been meeting all the way to chart a way forward ahead of governorship and State House of Assembly elections”, she said.
