The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Nasarawa State has expressed disappointment over the poor handling of its welfare by Governor Abdullahi Sule administration.
The State Chairman of the Congress, Comrade Yusif Iya writing on the Facebook page of the Congress stated that the meeting between the NLC leadership and the Acting Governor of Nasarawa state, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe ended in deadlock.
He wrote:
“Your welfare is our primary concern. We have been updating you on the sequence of development concerning your welfare. He wrote:
“Comrades, you would recall our promise to keep you posted on any development. Today we met with His Excellency, the acting Governor.
“As early as 9:00am in his residence and four basic issues concerning workers were presented to him which include promotion, salary arrears, minimum wage and Housing units for public servants.
“The acting Governor reaffirmed the assurance and determination of government to implement pending promotions at hand to deserving public servants by January 2021.
“The body language of the Acting Governor suggested that government is still not willing to pay the arrears this is because of some complaints put across on the matter by the Acting Governor.
“He told us that there was no formal directives from his principal on the request made by labour on the need for mplemention of minimum wage to all categories of public servants instead government have considered workers on grade level 01-06.
“The acting governor cut the meeting short and asked us to meet in his office by 3:00pm for continuation. We came back on exact time we early agreed but only for him to zoom out and left us after waiting for over three hours.
“Labour has been struggling for all government quarters to be allocated to occupants on owners occupiers basis.
“The Head of civil service confirmed to us that the matter is still on his table and requested us to meet him for discussion.
“Fellow comrades, in view of this it appears that government lack of commitment to our welfare, I have since directed the NLC secretary to call for an emergency SAC and SEC meetings of NLC scheduled for tomorrow to take a position in accordance with Labour practices.”
A union member who didn’t want his name in print told CAPITAL POST that, “they are likely going to shutdown the State government once the demands are neglected.
