Fed. University Lokoja gets new Vice Chancellor amid screening controversy

The Federal University of Lokoja has gotten a new Vice Chancellor amid calls for cancellation of the screening of applicants last week that was believed not to be transparent enough.

The new Vice Chancellor is Professor
Olayemi Akinwumi, a Professor of History from Nassarawa State University, Keffi.

The Chairman of the Governing Council , Senator Chris Adighije announced him on Friday, claiming that the process of the appointment of the new Vice Chancellor started since September, 2020.

Senator Adighije who seemed to be responding to the controversy that trailed his screening, said upon the advertisement, the governing council received 81 applications from various parts of the country.

He said the applications were subjected to thorough screening which only 20 out of 81 applicants were shortlisted.

He said: “The selection board made up of two external members of the council and two internal members from the Senate of the institution including myself met on Thursday and conducted interview for 14 applicants that appears before the selection board.

“After few hours of the interview, the applicants were reduced to three based on their scores.

“Professor Olayemi Durotimi Akinwumi who is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor Nasarawa State University came first , Professor Akintayo Emmanuel Temitope from Ekiti State came second, while Professor Krekere Tawari Fufeye from Bayelsa came third.

“I want to announce that Professor Olayemi Durotimi has been appointed Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja to take over from Professor Angella Miri who’s tenure has elapsed.

The new Vice Chancellor is taking over from Professor Angela Freeman Miri who’s tenure expired in February 15, 2021.

It is recalled thst a Lokoja based lawyer approached a Federal High High Court seeking cancellation of the screening over alledged non transparent process.
