FUL: Court stops search for VC, screening Committee over irregularities
The search for Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja, hits the brick wall on Friday as a Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja has restrained the screening Committee from further process leading to the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor.
CAPITAL POST reports that there was gross irregularities in the screening where about 20 Professors of Igala extraction from Kogi East were screened out, suggesting that the Screening Committee Chairman has become an interested party.
But Friday’s Court Order was at the instance of Chief Julius Elukpo, a Notary Public, who is calling for a judicial review pursuant to Order 34, Rule 1 (a) (3) sub section (1-2) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2019.
The lawyer insisted that the criteria used for.screening be made public.
Chief Elukpo called for a level playing ground for all applicants from the three senatorial districts.
The Court subsequently ordered that the exercise be put on hold pending the determination of the case.
However, no date has been fixed for hearing yet.
All things being equal, the new Vice Chancellor was expected to take over the Federal University Lokoja in February, 2021.
