Kwara former governor Abdulfatah Ahmed arrested over multiple fraud allegations
The Economic and Finanacial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Monday quizzed the former governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed over alledged fraud running into billions of naira.
The former governor who took over from Dr. Bukola Saraki in 2011 and left in 2019 after spending 8 years was grilled by the zonal office of the anti-graft agency in Ilorin, capital of Kwara State.
Before now, some of his aides have faced EFCC’s interrogation over financial sleaze that has left Kwara State in financial mess.
Sources revealed that Monday’s interrogation bothers on the ex-governor’s likelihood of inflation of contracts for private jet charters during his administration, EFCC sources which he did not immediately return a request seeking comments.
The arrest of the former governor followed the resolution of the Kwara State House of Assembly asking the governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq to immediately launch a probe into the administration of Abdul Fatah Ahmed on suspicious mismanagement of funds.
It is recalled that Ahmed’s predecessor and former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has been frequenting Court sessions over fraud allegations when he governed Kwara State for 8 years.
Some properties of Saraki have been frozen by the Economic and.Finanacial Crimes Commission on orders of Courts.
