Nasarawa State government bans playing of Chistmas songs
Ahead of Christmas celebration on 25th of December, 2020, the management of Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS) has banned the use of Christmas songs on its Television and.Radio stations.
Christmas songs otherwise known as Christmas carols have been banned, according to General manager of the station Barr. Yusuf Musa who gave the directive in a notice issued to the station’s duty continuity announcers in Lafia.
Christmas Carols are music usually pre played for sponsored advertorials as Christmas approaches.
But the directive stopped the play of Christmas songs until 15th of December, 2020.
CAPITAL POST reports that the directive by the General Manager was a departure from the past where Christmas carols are played on the radio and TV stations from the first of December to Christmas period.
Nasarawa State in the North Central Nigeria has predominant Christiand, thus, creating ill-feelings among the Christian faithful across the State.
A resident, Yohana Maku told this platform in Keffi on Friday in an interview that the directive was insensitive, saying, it’s part of islamic agenda against christians not only in Nasarawa, but the entire middle belt.
According to him, the business owners who want their jingles played using Christmas Carol songs have been denied because the general manager is a muslim?he queried.
