Breaking: Arrested Maina “forced back” in Abuja amid tight security
The former Chairman of Pension Reform Task Force Team, Abdulrasheed Maina has been brought back to Abuja amid tight security.
The fleeing Maina was brought back by
a team of police officers led by head of Interpol who have been in Niamey, capital of Niger Republic preparatory to extradite him since Thursday.
Maina was on the run from Nigeria to Niger Republic having jumped bail in the trial of criminally laundering the sum of N2 billion in a case before Justice Okon Abang Federal High Court.
He was being prosecuted by the
the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
CAPITAL POST reports that his surety, Senator Ali Ndume representing Borno South Senatorial district was sent to prison for five days for his inability to produce Maina in court.
Abang had said although other grounds of Ndume’s bail application failed, the senator has a record of “good behaviour”.
The Judge asked the Borno lawmaker to produce a surety who must be a resident of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and has property in the territory.
