As reactions continue to trail Shariah Hisbah’s prohibition of clearance sales tagged “Black Friday” in Kano, former Kaduna Senator and civil Rights activist, Shehu Sani said, whatever name added to the Friday doesn’t matter.

Reacting through his Twitter handle, Sani maintained that the threat against the phrase – Black Friday by Shariah Hisbah is nonsense, adding that they should concern themselves with insecurity in Kano and in areas which they are useful.

He wrote:

“Friday is our sacred day of prayer as Muslims. Whatever colour is added to it doesn’t matter.

“Hisbah’s threats against the phrase ’Black Friday’ is nonsensical.

“They should focus on the killings and kidnappings going on in their domains. Their services are needed in the battlefield.

A radio station in Kano has planned a clearance sales which it tagged, “Black Friday”, but the Kano State Hisbah Board has prohibited the conduct of the planned holiday clearance sales, saying Friday is a sacred day to muslims.

In a letter by Hisbah dated November 26, to the management of Cool FM 96.9 Kano, it warned the radio station to stop sales, saying that the Friday is holy to Kano predominant muslims.

Hisbah asked the radio station to retract the word “Black Friday” with immediate response so as not to incure its wrath, which according to them, the religious squad would survey their activities against any immoral act in Kano.

Black Friday is a special shopping period when retailers offer promoted sales to customers.

But the sale may be hampered in Kano, where members of the religious police have banned sale of alcoholic drinks, restricted social interaction between men and women, amongst other measures.
