By Abubakar Lawal Lafia
The People’s Democratic party, PDP, Nasarawa State has experienced yet another crisis in conduct of ward congress in the State as a result of factions in the party.
Our correspondent who monitored the process reports that party members were sharply divided.
Reports indicated that some local government areas agreed on consensus or affirmation i.e Lafia, Keffi, Doma and Awe local government, but turned out to serious crisis as others objected andninsisted on election, a situation that rendered the exercise incredible though.
In a letter of complaint addressed to Chairman of Ward Congress in the State, Senator Abba Moro by PDP stakeholders stated that there was no elections in 9 electoral ward out of 13 wards in the locality.
Those wards affected are, Agyragu Today, Adogi , Assakio, Ashige and Akurba. Others include Gayam, Chiroma, Makama and Zanwa electoral wards.
It would be recalled that ward Congress was earlier slated for March, 7, 2020 in the state.
The process was cancelled due to court judgement obtained by an aggrieved members of the party who are not in the same line with the incumbent leadership of PDP.
In an interview with the Chairman of Ward Congress assigned by the PDP National Secretariat for the conduct of the election, Senator Abba Moro told CAPITAL POST that as man of honour and intergrity, he will ensure all due process is followed in accordance with the party constitution.
“I want to inform you that what we are about to witness today is process where people will come out to elect their leadership at ward, local government and state levels under our great party, PDP in Nasarawa State.
“Though I’m aware that some places have reached a consensus, others will nominate their leaders by affirmation except few areas. He explained.
Given reason why they deserted PDP Secretariat along Jos road to a hired hotel for the disbursement of the election materials, Senator, Moro said that there was no authentic leadership in the state.
It could be recalled that Nasarawa State PDP is now being operated by Zonal office of the party.
Speaking to CAPITAL POST, former member, House of Representatives, Hon. Ogoshi Onawo described the hullabaloo as very unfortunate.
“There is a need for us as a family to our differences and work for the progress of the party and keep sentiment aside.
The PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate in the 2019 elections, Hon. Onawo has sued for peace and mutual understanding among party faithfuls, “just as he said no organization can achieve its goals in disunity among its people.
He advised delegates to vote credible leaders and avoid collecting money from anyone.
