Senator Uba Sani Friday bagged a prestigious 4th NASS 2020 award (Lockdown Edition) as most active lawmaker 2020 (Northern Region) by the Nigerian Assembly Newspapers in Abuja.

Change of Name

While presenting the award by the Coordinator and publisher of Nigerian Assembly Newspapers, Omoboye Oluwole and Toyin Suleiman, said the Kaduna State lawmaker did not only sponsor many bills and motions, but the bills were those that add values to the people.

“The bills and motions also directly touched the lives of his constituents through women and youth empowerment, educational development initiatives, scholarships and poverty alleviation programmes among others”, Oluwole said.

According to him, Senator Uba Sani who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions has intervened in banking issues that ensures the global best practices in the banking sector as well as foreign loan for Kaduna State, thereby blazing the trail in the history of Kaduna Central Senatorial district.

Responding, the Lawmaker commended the organisers for their forsight and for tracking the achievements of elected officials noting that it’s a clear indication that his modest contributions has been recognised by Nigerians.

Sani said, he would continue to sponsor bills that has direct bearing on lives of the people, stressing that as lawmakers, that is what they were primarily elected to do, particularly on some obsolete laws that needed to be amended.

He said, the economic and social challenges were not peculiar to Nigeria alone, but the world over, which were also deepened by the coronavirus pandemic in recent months insisting that Parliamentarians need to look at those laws that have outgrown their usefulness with a view to amend, “If Nigeria must compete with other nations.”

He said: “Of course, I am quite aware that some of our laws are obsolete and some of them need to be amended. We also need to enact and repeal some laws if we really want to compete with other and major countries of the world in terms of economic development.

“I am quite aware that Nigeria like any other country is facing a lot of difficulties, most especially those of us here in Africa due to the global pandemic and I have no doubt in my mind, we have a country that is really focused, particularly that our people are resilient.

“We will rely on Nigerians to continue to support us and on our own part, we will continue to sponsor more bills.

Senator Uba Sani said when he assumed office he formed a formidable team headed by a senior legislative Aide and other experienced staff to form a structure down to the Local Governments in his senatorial district where where people are gathered and consultations are made inorder to know their immediate needs.

The Lawmaker thereafter expressed optimism that bills passed into law in the 9th national assembly would be assented by President Muhammadu Buhari noting that those bills were people oriented and are the primary objectives of the APC administration.
