Ex-deputy governor Achuba defeats Kogi government in Court, to be paid N180 million

As legal fireworks between Elder Simon Achuba and Kogi State government continues, the National
Industrial Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday ordered Kogi government to pay him the sum of N180m

In an elaborate judgement delivered by Justice Oyebola Oyewunmi on Wednesday, the sum to be paid the.ex-deouty being outstanding security votes from April, 2018 to August, 2019.

The court.warned that an interest of 30% would be paid monthly, if the State defaults payment for.any reason within 30 days.

“The amount is to be paid to Achuba by the state government within the period of 30 days or 30% interest will be paid monthly.

Justice Oyewunmi declined approval of outstanding imprest Achuba was denied to the tunenof N328,33,000 during hisntenure of office.

Elder Achuba had dragged Kogi State government to Court for witholding his allowances which je considered a breach of his rights under Nigeria Labour law.

He asked for the sum of N921,572,758 for security vote, monthly imprest, traveling allowances, outstanding memos, and statutory allocations due to his office, as then deputy governor.

Achuba was impeached in October 2019 by members of the Kogi State House of Assembly.

His impeachment followed the submission of a report of the Committee set up by the State Chief Judge, Justice Nasir Ajana, to investigate an allegation of gross misconduct against the former deputy governor.
