Borno: Army eliminates 22 terrorists in counter attack

Boko Haram fighters’ attempt to overrun the Army Super Camp in Damboa, Borno was resisted by military with heavy casualties on the side of terrorists.

In a statement by the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. John Enenche, said the insurgents were subdued by the superior firepower of the troops and 22 of them were killed.

Change of Name

Boko Haram terrorists were known in attacking Army formations, but their operation on the Army Super camp in Damboa in Borno State was fatal.

The statement on Thursday titled, ‘Troops of Operation Fire Ball neutralise several Boko Haram terrorists, destroy gun trucks,’ the rout occurred on October 25.

Weapons revovered from terrorists according to Enenche are: “Two gun trucks, one NSV Anti aircraft gun, two rocket propelled grenade tubes, 4 PKT machine guns, one general purpose machine gun, one Browning machine gun, 12 AK 47 rifles and one AK 74 rifle.

Others were one RPG 7 bomb, 116 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition and two hand grenades.

He further explained: “Troops of Operation Fire Ball under Operation Lafiya Dole has continued to decimate members of the Boko Haram/Islamic State of West Province in order clear the remnants of the terrorists from the theatre.

“Consequently, on 25 October 2020 in what appears to be a suicide mission, the Boko Haram/Islamic State of West African Province attacked the well fortified Army Super Camp Damboa under 25 Bde in Sector 2.

“The terrorists met their waterloo as they were pounded with superior fire power and additional fire support from the Air Task Force. The Boko Haram group suffered several casualties as 22 terrorists were neutralized while others escaped with gunshot injuries.”

The Military authority said, wounded Soldiers have been taken away for medical treatment.
