Ghost workers, pensioners ripoff N1.062 billion – Bauchi governor
A whopping sum of N1.062 billion was lost to ghost workers and pensioners in Bauchi State in four years.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Finance, Umar Sanda gave this revelation while addressing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting, saying, between June, 2016 and and January, 2020, the State lost the money.
The Commissioner described as mind boggling the discovery of ghost elements in the State Civil Service, adding that about 259 ghost workers were found which has been reflected in the memo of the Committee.
The Commissioner explained that a total of 193 people were involved in the State payroll with about N270 million lost.
At the Local Government level, 66 persons were involved with a whopping sum of over N792 million ripped off.
He said, “The total amount of fraud for both the state and local government payrolls is N1.062bn.
Sanda revealed that the culprits were being arrested, though with challenges of name identification since they were changing their names.
“We’ve been arresting the culprits, but the problem is that they always change their names. We’ve not taken any definite decision on where to take the culprits because it is an ongoing process,” he added.
