Niger Police Command nabs 11 notorious armed robbers, to face prosecution soon

Eleven suspected notorious armed robbers who have been terrorising inhabitants of Minna and its environs in the last two months have been smatched by the men of Niger State Police Command.

Minna residents came under series of attacks by men of the underworld that have been terrorising innocent residents of Minna and its environs carting away their valuables and cash at gun points.

Change of Name

Addressing Journalists at a news briefing at the Police headquarters in Minna, Friday, the commissioner of Police in Niger State, Mr Adamu Usman explained that the Command recorded case of robbery attacks in some parts of Barkin-Sale Bosso Estate, Maitumbi, Morris and Shago areas of Minna “in which people were dispossesed of their valuables.”

He stated that upon the receipt of complaints of the various attacks on the residents of Minna and its surroundings, his men swung into action and effected the arrest of eleven of the syndicates who have been making life very unbearable to the people of the state.

According to the Police Commissioner, during preliminary investigations, the suspected armed robbers confessed to have participated in the series of robbery attacks on residents of Minna.

Among the iterns carted away by the suspects, the Commissioner disclosed, includes six vehicles, five plasma televisions with remote controls, 25 pieces of wrappers, and valuables and the sums of eighty five thousand, five hundred naira (N85,500) cash.

The Commissioner of Police further disclosed that men of the Command’s Safer Highway patrol team attached to Kagara Divisional Command along Tegina Zungeru road intercepted and arrested one Suleiman Abdullahi, a 40 year old of Mailamba-Angwa village in Tegina for being in possession of a locally fabricated rifle with fourteen rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition.

He stated that the suspect had during interrogation confessed to have bought the rifle at the rate of seventy thousand Naira (N70,000), through his late brother Sani Abdullahi, adding that investigation into the case has commenced.

Also the Commissioner of police told Journalists that the command got Information that one, Godwin Sinu was conveying about Seventy bags of indian hemp from Abuja to Gwada, as a result of the information, operatives of the men of Gwada Divisional command swiftly moved into action and traced fifty (50) bags of dried leaves suspected to be indian hemp in a bush near Daza in Muya Local Government Area.

During police investigation he said, “one Martins Okwor a 29 years old of Enugu State later surfaced and claimed ownership of the bags of indian hemp, while further investigation revealed that the remaining twenty (20) bags are in possession of the said Godwin, with effort to arrest Godwin and recover the remaining bags still on going.”

He said all the suspects will be arraigned in court of competent jurisdiction for diligence prosecution after the completion of investigations.
