The Nigerian Senate on Thursday announced partial closure of activities as part of its preventive measures to prevent an outbreak of Coronavirus within the precinct of the National Assembly.
By this arrangement, the upper legislative chamber has suspended all public hearing till further notice.
The President of the Senate, Ahmad. Lawan stated this at the end of a closed session, “Senate resolves to suspend all public hearings till further notice as a result of the Coronavirus”, he said.
Lawan also said ” the Senate gallery will remain closed to the public till further notice including excursions from schools and other organizations from Tuesday, 24th March, 2020.”
The new measure by the Senate came barely 24 hours after the House of Representatives reached a decision to restrict visitors to the National Assembly complex.
Nigeria’s confirmed cases climbed to eight on Wednesday; as states like Lagos banned all public gatherings exceeding fifty people.
