Crime correspondents get new executive to pilot affairs for two years

The Crime Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CCAN) has elected new Executive members to pilot the affairs of the association for the next two years.

CCAN is the umbrella body of Journalists in frontline electronic and Print media organisations in Nigeria covering crime in the FCT, Abuja

Change of Name

The election which held at the weekend, at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Chapter’s Press Centre, Abuja, was conducted in compliance with the federal government’s Covid-19 protocols on public gatherings.

The election which was free, fair and credible, saw the election of Mr. Hassan Zaggi of Authority Newspaper, who beat Mr Sam Ogbeifun of Silverbird TV, as Chairman of the Association.

Other elected members of the Executive include: Mr. Segun Olatunji of NigerianTribune Newspaper, who emerged as CCAN Vice Chairman unopposed; Mr. Festus Fifen of Ben TV who beat Babatunde Ayeni of Vision FM to emerge as General Secretary; as well as Peter Ireh of Capital FM who was elected as Assistant General Secretary unopposed.

Others are Modupe Oyewale of Hot Fm as Treasurer; Oluwakemi Kindness of Love FM as Financial Secretary; Ejike Ejike of Leadership Newspaper as Welfare Officer; as well as Joseph Undu of Daily Independent Newspaper as Chief Whip; all of who were elected unopposed.

Similarly, Kanayo Umeh of the Guardian Newspaper beat Kikeloma Okere of Core TV to emerge Public Relations Officer of the association
Responding on behalf of the new executive, the CCAN Chairman, Mr. Hassan Zaggi thanked members of the Association for the confidence reposed in them and assured that the executive would protect the interest of all members.

He further assured that the next two years would witness renewed commitment to attracting better opportunities for members of the association.
“On behalf of the new executive, I sincerely thank all of you for the mature manner we conducted ourselves before and during the election. We will do our best to meet all expectations.
“We, therefore, appeal for sustained support and cooperation as we unfold our plans after the formal inauguration in the days ahead.

“All those who contested won. There is no loser. This is because we are going to harmonise all the manifestos and work together for the good of the association,” he said.
