Palliative mattreses thieves arrested in Niger

Four persons have been arrested by the Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), for diverting 400 mattreses ment for palliative to some flooding Communities in Niger State.

The operatives of the Corps on surveillance received a tip-off on the suspicious movement of the suspects which resulted in trailing their trucks and the buyers of the items and the location thereby leading to their arrest along with the 400 mattresses.

The commandant of the Corps in the State, Alhaji Haruna Bala Zurmi disclosing this at a news briefing in his office explained that his men on routine patrol received an intelligence report that mattreses meant for palliative from Goverment has been diverted.

He stated that on receipt of the tip-off, his men swung into action by trailing them and effected the arrest of the trucks with the palliative which contained the mattreses to be distributed to flood victims in the state.

According to him, the operatives of the Corps through monitoring and intelligence gathering mechanism, were able to arrest the four suspected dealers at different location within Minna and its environs.

Those arrested, include Alhaji Suleiman Yusuf, Alhaji Saminu Yusuf, Alhaji Abdullahi Sarki and Alhaji Sani Shehu Ahmed.

He said the suspects admitted to have bought the items from a goverment official within the state adding that the four suspects will be arraigned before a competent court of jurisdiction for prosecution as soon as thorough investigation is concluded.

He said the command under his watch will not relent in the protection of critical national asset and infrastructure which is part of the core mandate of the Corps, stressing the needs for members of the public in the state to extend their hands of fellowship to the command to ensure the safety of government infrastructure and facilities across the State.

He noted that the success recorded in the arrest of the suspects was as a result of the information received by his operatives, assuring that such information from the public will be treated with absolute confidentiality.

He commended his men for their effort in bringing the suspects to book warning that his command will continue to make the state unbearable to men of questionable character in their midst.
